Charles Henry Harrod founded Harrods, a high-end department store located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London, in 1824. It boasts being the desired shopping location for customers such as Oscar Wilde, Charlie Chaplin, Sigmund Freud, and members of the British Royal Family. It also premiered England’s first escalator in 1898 and offered the nervous clientele brandy at the top of the “moving staircase.”  Some of the most fabled gifts bought from Harrods are aircrafts, yachts, an alligator in 1919, and a baby elephant named Gertie for Ronald Reagan.
